Chevron – Fin Fan Adjustment Project

Project Overview:

The Chevron Fin Fan Adjustment Project involved optimising the blade pitch of cooling fan systems on Train 1 and Train 2 at the Wheatstone LNG facility. The adjustments improved the cooling system’s efficiency while reducing operational costs. Altrad (formerly AusGroup) carried out the work during a two-phase campaign, ensuring safety and precision despite high-temperature challenges.

Scope:

  • Identified and electrically isolated equipment.
  • Adjusted and verified the pitch of fan blades.
  • Replaced drive belts and set proper tension.
  • Reinstalled safety guards and completed necessary Inspection Test Reports (ITRs) and work orders.

Outcomes:

  • Achieved a 10% cost reduction between Train 1 and Train 2 phases, saving approximately AUD 37,000.
  • Successfully completed the project within the designated timelines, minimising downtime and disruptions to facility operations.
  • Delivered works under tight schedules while maintaining safety standards, supported by on-site supervisors and HES personnel.
  • Reinforced Altrad’s expertise in delivering cost-effective maintenance solutions under challenging environmental conditions.
