Project Overview:
The civil works for the Pluto Compressor Station were critical to establishing infrastructure adjacent to Woodside’s Pluto Gas Plant. This project was carried out in the culturally and environmentally sensitive Burrup Peninsula, requiring meticulous planning and execution to meet stringent cultural, environmental, and safety requirements. Altrad (formerly Valmec) self-executed the gabion wall construction and all civil works, ensuring a high standard of delivery in this challenging location.
Scope:
Altrad’s scope of work included:
- Site clearing and bulk earthworks.
- Construction of gabion walls and in-ground services.
- Detailed earthworks, precast concrete, and in-situ concrete works.
- Backfilling and completion of all civil infrastructure.
Outcomes:
- Delivered the civil works on schedule and to client specifications, ensuring readiness for the compressor station construction.
- Cultural and Environmental Sensitivity: Maintained rigorous environmental and cultural controls, ensuring adherence to site-specific protocols on the Burrup Peninsula.
- Topographical Challenges: Constructed 5-meter gabion wall sections, managing working-at-heights risks with strict safety controls.
- Limited Access: Effectively planned plant, personnel, and delivery movements to optimise workflows and minimise disruptions.
- Enhanced safety and cultural compliance through comprehensive planning and site management.
- Demonstrated Altrad’s expertise in executing projects in environmentally and culturally sensitive regions, reinforcing its position as a trusted project partner.
