Rio Tinto – Rope Access Maintenance (Pilbara)

Project Overview:

Altrad (formerly AusGroup) was contracted by Rio Tinto to provide integrated maintenance support through a multidisciplinary team of rope access technicians. These teams worked across 10 mine sites in the Pilbara region, delivering comprehensive fixed plant shutdown and maintenance services. The work was instrumental in ensuring the operational efficiency and reliability of key mining infrastructure.

Scope:

Fixed Plant Shutdown Maintenance:

  • Liner replacement in chutes and primary crushers.
  • Conveyor maintenance, including roller and pulley changeouts.
  • Grizzly finger and cassette changeouts.

Condition Monitoring and Testing:

  • Weld integrity checks.
  • Thickness testing.

Detailed Reporting: 

  • Comprehensive documentation of inspection and maintenance activities.

Manning:

  • 150 Rope Access Technicians
  • 30 Ground Support Crew

Outcomes:

  • Delivered high-quality maintenance services across all 10 mine sites, adhering to Rio Tinto’s stringent safety and operational standards.
